Face to Face with Strabismus is an international creative collaboration with a public engagement mission. Conceived and co-edited by Lucia Wilson, writer, and Francesca Cesari, photographer, in association with leading eye surgeon, Mr Saurabh Jain.

We are also joined by Dr Giovanni Battista Marcon, a consultant ophthalmologist specialising in strabismus, based in Bassano del Grappa, Italy. Dr Marcon is also the Secretary/Treasurer of the European Strabismus Association.
There is an important psychological aspect to Face to Face with Strabismus, and we are delighted to have Dr Silvia Riva, psychologist and senior lecturer at St Mary’s University, as a contributor and collaborator. Dr Riva also treats patients at DottoreLondon.

Through the *photography and the interviews with the patients, the human story of strabismus is revealed.

*Photography by Francesca Cesari, additional photography by Remy Hunter.
Face to Face with Strabismus is available on Amazon and other online bookshops.
5 Star review on Amazon:
I found this book to be very helpful in helping understand other people’s management of their Strabismus. It has a good balance of ‘lived experiences’, and of the science behind the issues.
In my experience, having Strabismus can have an immeasurably detrimental effect on one’s quality of life, and all data I can find seems to show the harmful psychosocial effects this issue tend to cause shapes a whole persons’ character and development. As the book lays out, Strabismus is barely known about by the general public, and in my experience, non-clinical treatment for the mental health aspect is close to non-existent…That’s why this book is so important – reading this is book feels like finally finding someone who can come close to understanding one’s situation. Knowing you’re not alone is vital – with thanks to the author. (Mr M. customer review on Amazon, 15 Oct 2024).
In May 2023, Lucia gave a presentation to the Royal College of Ophthalmologists on the topic of living with strabismus, the patient experience. She also shared her observations, based on the work for the book, on how patient care could be improved.
